The Baudette-Lake of the Woods Chamber of Commerce is once again planning a two-day 4th of July Celebration to be held Saturday and Sunday, July 3 and 4th.  Both days will feature a jam-packed schedule full of entertainment, music, parades, food and of course, northern Minnesota's most spectacular fireworks display.  The two blocks of Main Avenue North in the downtown business district will be closed to vehicle traffic both days and vendor space is available in this area for food vendors, merchandise vendors, crafters and non-profit groups.  You must register with the Chamber of Commerce to

The Fourth of July Weekend Celebration is just around the corner. This year’s two-day celebration will be held Saturday and Sunday, July 3 and 4.  Two of the most anticipated events are the Kiddie Parade and Main Parade.  This year’s parades will be held on Sunday, July 4.  Both parades are sponsored by Border State Bank with the Main Parade also being coordinated by the bank’s staff.  The Kiddie Parade is coordinated by the Early Childhood Initiative.

Kids can come to Baudette Public Library, on Friday, June 11, at 1:30 p.m. to meet Henry Cole, the illustrator of "Make a Splash... READ", the 2010 Summer Reading Program.
This is a family program where Henry Cole will tell how he decided to become an artist and a writer. Kids that have seen Henry Cole have said that they learned that practice makes perfect.

Puppet show coming to library

Come to the puppet show of "Cinder-Freckle-Frog-Faced-Ella" at the Baudette Public Library on Thursday, June 10, at 2:30 p.m. This humorous and fun-filled program for the family is brought to you by the Schiffelly Puppets.
There will be a real puppet stage and lots of puppets. Jim is responsible for the creation of the original voices and the puppet characters. He has performed in theater productions. Shelley is in charge of the puppet stage design and construction. Sue works with the puppet shows in various capacities.

To assist those owners of five or more acres of Minnesota’s privately-owned forested lands, the Lake of the Woods SWCD is hosting a Forest Management for Wildlife Workshop.  The workshop is designed to provide forest landowners with information, tips, and answers to questions that provide insights into making good wildlife habitat and other forest management decisions.  This workshop is tailored to specifically fit the needs of landowners in northern Minnesota, more specifically Lake of the Woods.

Krohn, Calder crowned

Rachel Krohn of Williams was crowned the Potato Day Queen for 2008, with Valarie Calder of Warroad crowned as the runner-up.
In the front are junior prince Collin Dorow, Queen Rachel Krohn and junior princess Aspen Aery.
In the back row are Katrina Baldwin of Williams, Trudy Levasseur of Baudette, Sherina Knutson of Baudette, 2007 Queen Lindsey Carlson, 2008 Runner-up Carrie Fish, Runner-up Valarie Calder, Cheyenne Keeler of Warroad and Ashley Holmes of Warroad.

Potato Day begins Friday

Seven area candidates vie for 55th queen title

The 55th annual Potato Day in Williams starts Friday, Oct. 10.
Friday night kicks off with a meat raffle at 6 p.m. and a chili cook off at 7 p.m. Both events take place at the Williams Municipal Liquor Store.
Saturday starts with the annual parade at 11:45 a.m. Parade entries need to line up at the Williams City Park 30 minutes prior to parade time. Entry categories are as follows: most beautiful, most appropriate, most humorous, best decorated bike or walker, old car or hot rod, and horses.
