The Lake of the Woods Lady Bears swept Badger-Greenbush-Middle River in three games Saturday night in Crookston to win the Section 8A volleyball title. The Bears beat the Gators by scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-16. The Bears advance to the State Class A Volleyball Tournament which begins next Thursday afternoon at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

The Lake of the Woods Lady Bears had little trouble with Fosston Thursday night, as they won in three straight games to reach the Section 8A volleyball final. The Bears won 25-15, 25-14 and 25-14.

BGMR continued it's surprise run in the tournament by defeating Northern Freeze in five games.

Lake of the Woods and BGMR will square off on the campus of the University of Minnesota at Crookston Saturday night at 7 p.m. At stake will be the Section 8A championship and a trip to the Minnesota State Volleyball Tournament.

The Lake of the Woods Bears will go on to the Section 8A Semifinal round, after sweeping the Mahnomen Indians 3-0. They will play the winner of the Laporte versus Fosston game that has not been played at the time of this report. Watch for updated brackets Wednesday morning.

The Lady Bears defeated the Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears tonight 25-15, 25-4 and 25-17. That means Lake of the Woods will go on to play the winner of the Mahnomen vs Kelliher/Northome game that is in progress during the writing of this report. Watch for updated playoff brackets for all of Section 8A this weekend.

Final recount in Lake of the Woods County is finished, with seven ballots challenged by both the Coleman and Franken parties. Those challenged ballots will go on to be reviewed at the state level.

Lake of the Woods will go to state. The Lady Bears beat MCC/Tri-County Northern Freeze Saturday 3-0. Game scores were 25-20, 25-21 and 25-18.

The win puts the Lady Bears against Windom Area High School in the first round of the state tournament. That game will be played Thursday, Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. on court 1 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Windom has a 31-3 record while Lake of the Woods is at 20-7.
