The Lake of the Woods girls' basketball team played in the Pacesetter Varsity MIT (Minnesota Invitational Tournament) on Saturday and Sunday, July 24-25 in St. Cloud at the College of St. Benedict, Whitney Rec Center and St. Cloud State University.
The 18 girls' teams playing include New London-Spicer, Sebeka, Champlin Park, St. James, St. Francis, St. Cloud Cathedral, Crookston, Pequot Lakes, Litchfield, Eden Valley-Watkins, Isle, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, Perham, Montevideo, Lake of the Woods, Rogers, Foley, and Burnsville.
The Lake of the Woods girls’ softball team had a picnic and awards ceremony July 3rd at coach Doug and Pat Nosan’s home.
Ally Moeller was awarded the most improved and rookie of the year awards. Most dedicated player was Shelby Nosan.
The unsung hero of the team was Deanna Olson.
Jennie Buegler and Shelby Nosan tied for the Leadership award.
The most valuable player was pitcher Ali Hasbargen.
Hasbargen and Nosan were named to the Sub-Section North 8A team and Buegler got an honorable mention.
Keith Ballard stopped by the Lake of the Woods Hockey School on Thursday, July 8. Recently traded from the Florida Panthers to the Vacouver Canucks, Keith helped with the Young Skaters session and the Mites session. Before skating with the local high school players, Keith signed autographs and was very gracious with his advice

The Lake of the Woods track athletes went to the section meet in Crookston June 5th. No one advanced to state competition but several competed well.
Saragh Fraser placed fifth in the 400-meter dash, cutting down her qualifying time to 1:02.66. She got four team points for her efforts.
The girls’ 4x400-meter relay team finished in eighth place with one team point. They completed the race in 4:27.85, about one second slower than their qualifying time.

The Lake of the Woods Bears defeated Kelliher/Northome in a subsection quarterfinal Tuesday in Baudette 16-5, only to see their season come to an end in the semifinal round as Fosston cruised to a 10-0 win.

The Lady Bears softball team finished the season with a 16-5 record. Leading the team in most categories were senior Ali Hasbargen and junior Shelby Nosan.
Hasbargen crossed home 32 times in 71 at-bats and a total of 80 bases. She had the team-leading 43 hits with 25 singles, seven doubles, three triples and eight home runs. Her .606 batting average topped the rest of the team. She pushed 31 of her teammates home to lead in RBIs.
The Lake of the Woods Bears saw their season come to an end Thursday afternoon at the hands of the Fosston Greyhounds at the Bemidji State University baseball fields. The Greyhounds pounded out 16 hits on their way to a 10-0 five-inning victory. Fosston pitcher Steven Lyseng did not allow a hit by the Bears. The only base runner the Bears had was Travis Mollberg who managed a walk in the fourth inning.
