George Taylor, the Baudette city superintendent, said last spring that at least some of the campsites at Timber Mill Park would be open by Fourth of July, and it looks as if his prediction has come to pass.
At least 10 of the sites, including the water and electricity hookups, will be open by the weekend for recreation vehicle campers, Taylor said. The campground has already served tent campers for several weeks.
“We’ve been talking about this for three years,” Taylor said, “and this will be the year.”
According to Taylor, when all of the camp sites are completed there will be 20 spots for RV campers and another six or eight primitive sites for tent campers. One of the RV sites, he said, will be handicap accessible, with an area 16 feet wide that includes a level, hard-packed graveled area just to the south of the new bathrooms.
The all-tiled bathrooms, which include showers, were competed earlier this spring. Taylor said there have already been several calls from people anxious to use the campground asking when it will be completed.
Prices for camping have been pegged at $20 per night for RVs and $10 per night for each tent. There are also discounted weekly rates, at $100 for RVs and $50 for tents. For now, campers pay at the city office, but a system is being designed to eventually include a drop box and tag system, or else collection by the city’s police department.
Taylor said the rest of the camping sites will be finished by the end of the summer. In addition to the bathrooms and camping sites, the new campground will include an RV sewer-dump station and a fish cleaning site.
