Two people of Baudette were involved in a motorcycle accident over the weekend.
The Minnesota State Patrol reported that a 2002 Kawasaki motorcycle driven by Derry Strohl, 47, of Baudette, hit a deer shortly after 11 p.m. Friday, August 22. The accident occurred on County Road 6, just south of the intersection with Highway 172. The motorcycle was traveling southbound.
Strohl was taken to LakeWood Health Center with serious injuries and was later flown to Duluth where he remains in critical condition.
His passenger was his wife, Cherie Strohl, 43, of Baudette. She was taken to LakeWood Health Center, but did not survive the crash.
Neither was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The motorcycle was totaled and towed away.
Assisting in the incident was the Lake of the Woods County Sheriff Office and Lake of the Woods Ambulance.
A wake will be held for Cherie Strohl at Helgeson Funeral Home in Baudette from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 28th and a funeral will be held on Friday, August 29th at 2 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church also in Baudette.
