The Lake of the Woods School Board approved the levy at the meeting Monday night.
The levy of $2,101,541.03 is $63,341.15 more than last year, or an increase of 3.11%.
Audit
In other financial business at the meeting, the board heard from Ray Lundee from Brady, Martz & Associated, P.C. He presented the annual audit to the board.
The usual things came up that are common for all small districts, such as the need for more people to check the bookkeeping in the financial office. More eyes mean more checks and balances. That can be difficult to do in an office with few people.
The district had to have a plan to prevent their bank deposits from being more than they had collateral for. This happens when taxes come in, Lundee said.
He also recommended some cleanup of the some of the student activity fee accounts because some were in the negative.
Overall, he said the district is doing well by being conservative and keeping under budget for the most part. In fact, the general fund increased $336,921 in the year because tax collections were higher than expected.
Lundee gave out some interesting facts, such as 76% of the district’s money comes from the state, and 73% of the school’s expenditures are on salaries and benefits.
