Marlo Fadness Memorial Ride a big success

» Read similar stories filed under:

Lake of the Woods School Relay for Life team and the Lake of the Woods Drifters Snowmobile Club announce a very successful Memorial Ride.
145 snowmobilers signed in or called in their miles at the Williams Bar and Grill for 17,453 miles that were rode. This is the most ever!
The Lake of the Woods Drifters pledged 25¢ a mile up to $2,500 or 10,000 miles. That goal was far exceeded. More than $6,000 was raised for American Cancer Society/Lake of the Woods Relay for Life. $2,500 from the Lake of the Woods Drifters will put the Drifters as a Corporate Sponsor at the Relay for Life event in August 2010, $150 was raised by Clowns for a Cure Relay for Life team from the meat raffle, $3,350 was raised for the LW School Relay for Life team from the pancake breakfast, silent auction, sale of shirts and food sold at the Williams Bar and Grill and sponsors that were listed on the back of the t-shirts.
There still are a few memorial t-shirts left for sale. Please contact Joyce Fadness or Tom Beckel if you are interested in purchasing one.
Plans are already in the works for next year’s event. Joyce Fadness is hopeful to continue to receive the support of the Lake of the Woods Drifters with the support of the first $2,500 pledge towards the first 10,000 miles. We will be exploring the possibility of having other agencies and or organizations to pledge 25¢  a mile for additional miles that are ridden. The goal is to try to reach 20,000 miles with 25¢ match for ever mile that is ridden. It will be a challenge, but not an impossible one. The event continues to grow each year. Anyone who has ideas to help support the effort of each mile raising money contact Joyce at 218-766-3270. We will also be looking into a possible raffle and have some other ideas to improve this annual event.
A special thanks to all participants, businesses and volunteers who helped make this event a success. Cancer touches each one of us at one time or another. We need to work together to fight the battle against cancer.
