Deciding to go into the nightcrawler breeding business was one that the Wiersma family debated for about three years. Research and health issues came into play, but when they learned that the business is actually two-in-one, that sealed the deal.
Since December, the family has been getting their new business, Creepy Crawler Industries off the ground. It was after talking to another worm farmer that Dean Wiersma was told, “don’t forget about the castings.”

The first topic posed to governor’s candidate Mark Dayton was about how the state could ever get out of debt.
Dayton’s answer was quick and to the point: tax the rich. Later he explained that some conservatives had discussed a flat tax, where everyone pays the same percentage of tax. That, he said, would be an improvement but a graduated tax so the wealthiest carry the biggest tax burden, would be better.

Minnesota hunters can harvest snow geese this spring – including blue-phased and the smaller Ross’ geese – under the provisions of a federal conservation order. Hunting during 2010 will be open from Monday, March 1, to Friday, April 30.
This conservation order is part of an international effort to reduce populations of lesser snow geese, which breed in high Arctic coastal areas and the Hudson Bay area. High populations of the birds cause habitat damage on breeding grounds and negatively impact other bird and waterfowl species that breed in the high Arctic.
