Boys' hockey coach Mike Pepera said yesterday the month of December is the most difficult schedule he has seen. He hoped the team would come out of the month with great experience, and not pay much attention to the scores or the record. That being said, the Bears should be happy with their game last night against Warroad. A team that blew them out of the water last year, the Bears held the Warriors scoreless for about half of the game. The Warriors scored twice in the second period and once in the third for the 3-0 win. Alex Lyon had another good night, making 51 stops for the Bears.
The girls' basketball team started the season with a 46-39 win over Warroad. Monday they went to International Falls where the Broncos got the 45-38 win. Their field goal percentage went up from their first game, but not enough for the win.
The girls' hockey team was in International Falls on Tuesday. The Broncos scored one in the first, four in the second and one in the third for the 6-0 win. The Lady Bears did keep pace with the Broncos, with 27 shots on goal, while the Broncos had 28.
Coach Bob Laine said the game against Roseau Tuesday night was a good example of how the Bears could get some wins if they can put together two good halves. Against Roseau, the Bears scored only 14 points in the first half, to the Rams' 41. But inthe second half the Bears ramped up the defense and shot the ball well to outscore the Rams 26-24. The damage from the first half was too much to pull out the win, but still proof that the young Bears can play some ball.
