To assist those owners of five or more acres of Minnesota’s privately-owned forested lands, the Lake of the Woods SWCD is hosting a Forest Management for Wildlife Workshop. The workshop is designed to provide forest landowners with information, tips, and answers to questions that provide insights into making good wildlife habitat and other forest management decisions. This workshop is tailored to specifically fit the needs of landowners in northern Minnesota, more specifically Lake of the Woods.
Rachel Krohn of Williams was crowned the Potato Day Queen for 2008, with Valarie Calder of Warroad crowned as the runner-up.

Seven area candidates vie for 55th queen title
The 55th annual Potato Day in Williams starts Friday, Oct. 10.
Friday night kicks off with a meat raffle at 6 p.m. and a chili cook off at 7 p.m. Both events take place at the Williams Municipal Liquor Store.
Saturday starts with the annual parade at 11:45 a.m. Parade entries need to line up at the Williams City Park 30 minutes prior to parade time. Entry categories are as follows: most beautiful, most appropriate, most humorous, best decorated bike or walker, old car or hot rod, and horses.
For nearly thirty years, Oktoberfest has been one of the outstanding annual events held in Baudette, MN. It began as an event partnered with the Moose Lodge and ten years later moved to its current location behind the American Legion. This year the tradition continues; the 19th Annual Hands Across The Border Oktoberfest will take place Friday, September 26 through Saturday, September 28. An estimated 800 people are expected to attend.
Pequana Playhouse is hosting a Robin Hood Theme Party, Saturday, September 20, 4 p.m. at the fellowship hall in First Lutheran Church in Baudette.
Everyone is invited; the price of admission is a snack to share. You are encouraged to dress accordingly, and there will be prizes awarded for the best costumes (one each: man, woman, girl and boy). To get ideas for ways to put together a costume, send a blank email to robinhood@pequana.org. By return mail you will receive a list of websites that have information and instructions for making or finding costumes.
LakeWood Regional Healthcare Foundation would like to extend a special invitation to you to join us for its 5th Annual Golf Fund-raiser on Saturday, September 20. at 10 a.m. at Oak Harbor Golf Course in Baudette, MN. The Foundation is pleased to provide this opportunity for area community members to spend a day together having fun, playing golf, and showing their support.
Several hundred people enjoyed the annual community dinner at LakeWood Health Center Thursday, Sept. 4. Music was provided by the Highway 11 Ramblers.

With the Rainy River and Sportsman’s Lodge docks as their backdrop, the Hewitt Sisters, Ashlee and Katrice, performed a concert Friday, August 22. They sang on a floating dock as the audience enjoyed the music from the shore. Joining them was Ashlee’s Nashville Star co-contestant Justin Gaston.
